First of six in a new silver fish series run by Drennan GOT Baits. No carp of any kind counted. Steve Perrin claimed an overall win with a net of quality roach mainly in the 6-12 oz bracket. Bloodworm and joker accounted for all of his fish.
Top weight on Swallow was Martin Buchwalder with mainly small roach and a few late skimmers on bloodwrom, joker and maggot.

Just the 8 carp for Mark who at one point had five in as many put ins. 6mm soft pellet over micro feed pellet was the winning tactics. Despite being totally broken hearted at the draw even after being reassured he had drawn the best Roach peg on the venue Martin rallied for an all quality roach bag on the little red men. He did admit grudgingly that he had took some enjoyment from his days fishing!

A sharp overnight frost put a thin coating of ice on the lake and sport slowed as a result.
Gary took a leaf out of Johns' book from Wednesday and fished the waggler to where he had broken ice at 19m.
As the ice receeded during the day a few further carp were tempted from the centre of the lake.

A good mixed bag of skimmers and Roach on caster for Michael at up to 9m. The swallow weights were generally dominated by skimmers whilst it was quality roach on Brook again.

This was the fourth of five rounds with the best four results counting for the overall standings.
Mick Ellyatt, Michael Buchwalder and Richard Head all have three section wins to carry to the final round on April 04th.

Stalwart regulars who finished in the top 20 of the matchmen league gathered for an A and B final. Mark Giles had the honour of the A lake choice after finishing top of the league and plumped for Brook (much to his regret).
Pete Alland won a close fought A final off the pre match favourite peg. He fished pellet over micro tight to the island to take carp to 5lb. Gary Thorpe pushed him hard but a late lost fish cost him dear.
Joff had 15lb of mixed silvers in the first 2/3 of the match and then caught carp down the edge late off a peg that had not seen carp since early November.

A hard match followed a severe frost with very few fish caught down the margins or late on as had been the case in the preceeding weeks.
Jamie caught well on pellet at 11m from the off with carp to 6lb but his peg slowly but surely got harder with almost nothing put in the sack in the last third of the match when a much higher weight seemed on the cards.

On a blustery freezing cold day Dick fished short at 5m at the bottom of the shelf on pellet. He had
several carp to 9lb and plenty of 1lb+ skimmers that were the diffrence on the day.Robin Cave pushed him hard from Brook with an all carp bag of meat caught fish down the track ranging from 4lb to 10lb.

After wasting 2 hours on the paste at 6m Ivan concentrated in the margins where he caught for the remainder of the match. It was an all carp bag with the fish predominantly between 4lb -9lb. Ivan caught on maggot, meat, corn and pellet or as he said 'anyhting I put on the hook'.
Gary Keetely pushed hom hardest from peg 4. Gary had the vast majority of his weight in the last 2 hours with a carp a bung in the 5lb - 10lb range down the edge on maggot in just 12 inches of water.

Martin caught close on his top kit drip feeding corn all day. Paste was the top hook bait with a few fish on meat too for all carp to 9lb. Mal Talbot pushed him close in a very windy peg 8. Mal fished at 6m on meat with a lot of good skimmers early (26lb) before better carp in the 5-10lb range moved in later.

The consensus amongst all the sage veterans of Oakfield was that Brook could not possibly win a combined lake match. Happy to prove them wrong was Pete Alland who caught steadily most of the match on paste at 6m. Around 25 carp to 12lb and some large skimmers fell to the sagest Oakfield veteran of them all. Best weight on Swallow fell to Steve Johnson who had all of his mixed carp, skimmer and Roach bag on maggot at 5m and in the margins.

Both Lakes settled down after the heavy overnight rain on Friday and fished much better. Steve Johnson had the top weight on Swallow fishing maggot shallow at 6m for carp to 7lb and some silvers. This gave him a perfect score to tie with Gary Keetley and Ivan Graham who both won extremely tight sections as well.

On day 2 plenty of maggot was used by all the top three anglers and proved the decisive bait this weekend. Top weight on Brook was Stuart Carter who caught on worm over pellet and maggot. Those who stuck to meat and paste were caught out by the big drop in water temperature over the days previous to the match.

In a neck and neck battle off adjacent pegs Gary Keetley's last fish of the day hooked just before the whistle saw him victorious. Ivan caught shallow from the off on pellet and maggot on the long pole and was comfortably ahead. Gary concerntrated down the edge on maggot while Ivan switched to corn at 4m. Garys catch rate increased considerably in the last hour as Ivan's tailed off.

Up in the water again for the happy tapper John Parella on a day when the fish were very reluctant to feed on the bottom. Heavy rains and the lakes topped up with cold water seemed to have depleted the oxygen leaving the fish sluggish and making for a hard match.
In his last match at Oakfield before moving to Scotland (where the lakes have been confirmed as froozen already until May) John took the golden peg as well which stood at £139 giving him £209 in total. Enough to last a Scotsman several years apparently.

A full moon and a very clear cold night did not bode well. Throw in a bitter north wind and the match was as hard as was expected. Carp were at a premium and even the large head of resident silvers refused to feed.

An extremely hard day on Brook saw all of the top weights come from Swallow lake.
Stuart Carter fished at 14.5mtrs down the right hand margin and in open water for mainly big carp in the 5lb-10lb range on worm over micro pellet.

After a fruitless first couple of hours Stuart realised the carp were sitting off bottom in the deeper water.
A change of tactics saw him patiently wait for 6 carp to 7lb to take his offering at around mid water.

The carp on Brook lake moved onto their habitual winter pegs for the first time this year with the most noted winter pegs taking the first three spots. Pellet at depth at 16m and 10m saw Pete take the win with carp to 8lb in his winning bag.
Extremely low oxygen levels on Swallow (most likley caused from the large amount of decaying dead algae) produced a really hard day for all the anglers on this lake.

Joff drew on the proverbial shedful but they were not feeding fish for the first 2/3 of the match. Of the first 22 carp hooked, 15 were lost (presumably foul hooked. Of the 7 landed 5 were foul hookers). The fish got their heads down finally and a further run of 15 properly hooked fish followed. Pellet and maggot at 16m to the peninsula all day for Joff.

With oxygen levels still low on Swallow the more powerful aerator on Brook was switched on Friday and run overnight to ensure a near ice free lake for the Saturday match. In a close fought Match the top two anglers caught on red maggot almost tight over to the island, suprisingly in just 3 foot of water.
