You will have seen Trev's post in Bait Talk re the new Atomic Paste being ready for release. Some of us lucky GOT anglers have been putting it through it's paces since the end of last summer. As with all things GOT, Trev and Gaz won't add it to the range until it has been thoroughly tested and proven.
One thing that quickly came to light was just how versatile a product this paste is. Its main use will of course be as a paste and I'm sure Gaz will soon be soon be doing a feature on here about what a brilliant paste it is proving to be. A little bird tells me he has also found other ways of using it as well, watch this space !
It didn't take me very long to start to experiment using it as a method mix ! Not the most obvious use for a paste but as I said at the start, this is proving to be a very versatile product.
Because the paste is milled very fine to make a smooth paste it needed a bit of playing around with to get it to the right consistency for use on the method. Straight from the bag it was too fine and wouldn't break down quickly enough. I GOT around this by gradually adding fine brown crumb until it opened the mix up. After lots of trial and error I have now refined the mix to a point where I am happy that it is the best method mix I have ever used. It moulds around the feeder very easily and grips on extremely well. I'm sure all of you who fish the method will have experienced the frustration (and embarrassment!) of having your mix fall off mid cast ! This mix minimises that but still melts off the feeder really well.
The fish pulling power of Atomic Paste has always been excellent. Trev's new recipe has improved it even more. Using this attraction in a method mix is proving to be a winner.
If you fancy a go with it, I have been been using 500g of Atomic with 200g of finely sieved brown crumb. Not only does it make a brilliant mix but it also makes it very cost effective! I recommend making your mix the night before you use it. Take your time and add water in several stages, a little at a time. It will slowly absorb water as you go. When it reaches the point where you dampen it and it stays damp, it should be perfect the next morning.
This is still work in progress. I have recently been playing around adding GOT 3G to this mix. It's early days yet but it is showing promise as a skimmer groundbait. I'll let you know!
