Came 2nd here a couple of years ago in the Angling times Semi beaten only by a couple of pound to Des Ship...Fed red maggot and fished double red maggot on the hook at 6mts .Ended up with 67lb Carp and Barbel i think Des had 74lb on the feeder....Maggot was the method then

Since the Fisho round last year, the fisheries relaxed match rules have been tightened up somewhat.

For those that aren't aware of them they are now as follows......

50lb max per keep net with a 10lb tolerance.

No swinging fish to hand.

No bloodworm, joker or floating baits. No pre-baiting.

No fishing over the ropes or beyond halfway to the next peg or 6 mtres if on an end peg.

All nets and tackle must be bone dry at start.

No coaching.

Hook lengths to be minimum of 10 inches below the float. HOOK LENGTHS TO BE MINIMUM OF 10 INCHES BELOW THE FLOAT.

Barbless hooks only. No floating poles.

No walking across the bridges during a match if the pegs next to the bridge are in use.

8 pints of loose feed bait allowed at your peg. On top of this you are allowed 2kg of groundbait and 1kg of worms (not bloodworms or joker).

These are now pretty vigourously enforced and checks are made.

Prit,
Make sure that you're wrapped up well, because Monks is one of the most exposed fisheries on God's earth, which in turn means that the lakes can generate one hell of a tow on them if the wind gets up.

Cheers guys. Pete, have been there a couple of times, including the match that Robin was second in. It is a very exposed site that's for sure ! Have been on the phone talking to anyone that I can think of. Seems as though the feeder is working well at the mo, but getting the feeding sorted on the pole line is gonna be the key ! If anyone else has any pearls of wisdom I'd be only to pleased to get 'em !

Well Gaz, after 13 hour day complete with a 260 mile round trip that included gettin' lost and missing me breakfast, I have to concede that you are correct. I'm deffo beyond help !! 4 skanky little F1's and a few scrawny skimmers was all I had to show for 5 hours of hard fishing. And that was with barely anyone on the water. With anglers on every peg and dozens of people walking the banks, it's gonna be a bloody tough semi-final. Please someone, just teach me to say NO !!

Hi Robin. I was three pegs from where Des won the match you were 2nd on. Two guys were pleasure fishing the end pegs and were emptying it ! A barbel a chuck, fishing wagglers just off their rod ends !! Rest of that bank was rancid !

Prit,
Peg 45 is THE barbel peg on Lake 2, they are in permanent residence there.:winksmiley02:
I believe that there are going to be 3 sections on Puma Lake as Lake 1 isn't being used due to a fish kill, and to be honest I would fancy one of those 3 sections.
When it's hard at Monks, maggot feeder+ Atomic can be the banker for a few, in fact I'd be tempted to fish it for the full 5 hours unless I was on Puma, where I'd go with wag + mag as a lot of the swims are quite shallow on the pole line.:original:

Hi Pete. I think you are right, Puma is the place to be. Watched the weigh in there yesterday and it fished really well. Good weights of skimmers on the feeder and loads of little chub on the wag and mag. Raison was meant to have had twenty plus carp on the method but we didn't stay to see him weigh. One of our anglers did have some F1's on maggot feeder and red atomic. Would dearly love to draw that barbel peg !! I'll put up my result on sat. night !

Bit late but.......... 10lb 4oz and middle of the section. MK 5th, top four qualified !! Lots of good results but came unstuck with one DNW. Was bloody frozen, cold wind in the face all day. Which brings me neatly on to today. Meadowlands winter league. Another five hours of abject bloody misery for one miserable little 5oz roach. Two more rounds to go ! Never again !! Global warming ? Bring it on !
