Well its been a while since my first blog due to having no internet at home as my 2 year old daughters lovely little rabbit decided to eat through the phone line and my homehub power cables for its lunch, the little b"&*"!d!!!
14th March Bowsaw lake was the venue for the penultimate match of the club season.
Weather 12oC sunny and breezy.
After helping to peg the half of the lake we had, i knew peg 1 and peg 11 were the ones to draw. Peg 1 has lots of options, nearest swim to the island (16m), nearbank features and also the bridge to the island where the bigger fish tend to patrol. Peg 11 has reeds which start by the bank and go out as far as 14metres which have just started to grow.
Well needless to say i didnt draw either of them! I drew peg 10 where i had fished once before and decided to fish a maggot feeder to the island, the pole at 12metres with corn micro pellets and down the inside either side
All in at 10 oclock and first up i decided to fish the feeder to the island, i was hoping to try out the baitbomb feeders but the wind had picked up and so decided use a medium drennan carp feeder 5lb preston mainline 0.12 hooklength 18 carp maggot hook, bait was red maggots dusted overnight in red atomic with 2 or 3 on the hook.
First chuck and ten biteless minutes later, i gave the reel half a turn and within seconds the tip went round resulting in a chubb of 12oz. Next 4 chucks resulted in 4 more chubb 10 to 12 oz each all after half a turn on the reel, but had to wait a little longer for the bites (atomic cloud certainty does what it says on the bag)
The next two hours resulting in 10 more chubb 8 to 12 ozs and 2 small carp but no 2 fish coming for the same place on the island, had to keep working my way along the bank to keep the fish coming so i decided to give the 12m pole line ago which i had been cupping in atomic corn micros with a few grains of corn at regular intervals during the morning.
Had ten biteless minutes on the corn so i changed to a got 6mm corn pellet and 3 minutes later a 4lb carp was in the net. Two more carp followed in the next 20 minutes then bites dried up.
Tried both margin swims, one fed with micro pellet and the other with dusted mag but no bites or indications of fish present (still too early in year for margins to produce) noticied no one else had caught down the margins either so decided to go back on the feeder for the last hour.
Managed to catch a dozen more chubb again 8 to 10 oz each and 8 more small carp about 1lb each.
Finished with 36lb 7oz for third, First was peg 11 with 54lb 5oz all carp caught at 12m tight to the reeds on pellet and second was peg 1 52lb 2oz all carp, first few fish to the island on the lead over got micros and then the last hour and half down to his left towards the bridge better fish(lost a carp 18-20lb approx at the net ) on maggot.
Overall happy with another brown envelope and with one match to go in the club season im 1 point behind the league leader.
28th March Woodlane Iver was the venue of the last club match of the season.
Weather 14oC overcast and quite breezey.
Never fished this lake before but managed to get on a match the previous sunday (didnt really help me much as i drew a peg we didnt have on the day!) managed to catch a few fish but that corner of lake didnt really produce on the day.
8.30am draw and myself and Fred (who's league points leader) were left the last two pegs in the bag, i drew peg 5 on the hut bank and Fred drew peg 17 on the causeway between the two lakes.
Limped to my peg (not a good idea dropping a railway sleeper on your foot
Approach for the match was simple, win the match or beat Fred by two places to win the League.
After seeing how it fished the week before i decided to set up a waggler fishing up in the water, gb feeder and pole line at 12-14m on the deck (had 11ft of water)
10am and all in and i decided to try out on the waggler as i had seen a few fish top while setting up. Fishing out towards the aerator i started about 7ft deep (25-30ft deep) feeding 6mm got pellets and fishing 4lb preston line straight through to 16 carp maggot hook with 2 dusted red mags. First two chucks 2 missed bites then third time lucky a carp of 2lb in the net. 4 more followed in the next 30 minutes but by then the wind picked up and changed direction slightly blowing over my right shoulder across the lake. The carp seemed to follow the wind and were now out of my range, tried feeding heavier but didnt seem to work. Went on the gb feeder on the same line as the waggler, green gb with micro pellet and 2 red mag on hook and first chuck had wrap round for a small f1.
Few skimmers then followed but bites slowed up. Decided to give the pole line ago, been cupping in got green micro pellets and dusted red maggots. No bites on the deck but i did have a bite on the drop so i shallowed up to half depth(5 1/2ft) and started on the red mag feeding dusted mag in a drip pot. Bites took a while to start but the skimmers did come up in the water and i managed to bag a dozen within 20 minutes but then they moved out of range as the two boys either side of me followed suit.
Decided to go back on the feeder this time on drennan carp feeder with dusted red mag for feed and hook bait for the last hour and managed to catch a few small carp before bites slowed again.
With 20 minutes to go i had a message from my mate fishing next to Fred that he had found a few carp on the feeder and it was close between us so i decided to go back on the pole line uitw to nick a few skimmers where i managed to nick 4 in last 10 minutes.
All out called and i knew two of the boys had beat me (both guests so they didnt qualify for league pts) 1st peg 14 Dave 58lb 6oz all on pellet feeder fished out to other side of aerator 2nd Andy peg 2 53lb 10oz mainly on method feeder and waggler again to middle of the lake.
I weighed in 29lb 5oz currently 3rd and was waiting for the weight for Fred
He weighed in 28lb 9oz! i done him by 12oz![]()
I sneaked 3rd overall and most importantly 1st out of club boys for 13pts and Fred was 2nd in club for 10pts.
Final league standings Me 173pts and Fred 171pts!
League winner for 1st time
Overall very happy with how the season went and GOT baits did the business!!![]()
